For many decades, the diciplines of Economics and Sociology have been at odds with each other, and criticized each other too. While may economic sociologists were hostile to economics, it has gradually come to be understood that economics is a multifaceied science and that is also contains some ideas that are relevance to economic sociology. Some economists have also come to think that they can improve their own analyses by opening these up to sociological concepts and ways of thinking. In this paper, the social dimension of economics is tried to examine by determining the differences between mainstream of economics and economic sociology based on this development.

Uzun yıllar ekonomi ve sosyoloji disiplinleri araları açık kalmış ve birlerini eleştirmişlerdir. Bir çok ekonomik sosyolog ekonomi bilimine düşmanken, daha sonra yavaş yavaş anlaşıldı ki; ekonomi çok yönlü bir bilimdir ve aynı zamanda ekonomik sosyolojiye uygun bazı fikirleri içinde taşır. Diğer taraftan bazı ekonomistler de sosyolojik kavramlar ve düşünme yoluna analizlerini açarak kendi analizlerini geliştireceklerim düşünmeye başlamışlardır. Bu makalede bu gelişmelere dayanarak iktisadın sosyal boyutu egemen ekonomi ile ekonomik sosyoloji arasındaki farklılıklar belirtilerek irdelenmeye çalışılacaktır.
