Abstract (2. Language):
In this paper developing phases of Turkish is considered in historical sense. Turks experienced a serious alteration with the influence of the new cultural environment after converting Islam. Their language was also affected owing to this conversion. However, Turkish authors and poets tried to strengthen Turkish against Persian and Arabic. They partly achieved until 15th century. Neverthless, after this age to Tanzimat an excessive Persian and Arabic linguistic stream damaged Turkish language and Turkish thinking. Tanzimat could be assumed a turning point in all fields of Turkish social structure. Language and views on language has started to be more simple and practical after westernization policies. However deep-rooted reforms were earned out during the initial period of republican era. Despite its some extreme practises, and represantatives it could be accepted that Turkish evolved to a unique form. But Turkish is now threatened by Western languages, especially by English, language of globalisation and technical industrial revolution.
