We investigate the seismic noise level in the Avcılar campus and at several other locations so as to find a proper place for a broadband seismic station that will be run by the staff of Department of Geophysics, Istanbul University. The lowest noise level was measured at Silivri campus of our university where we deployed the broadband equipment and commenced data collection. We give some results of scientific studies that can be realized using a single station 3-component waveform data, e.g., estimation of soil transfer function using the Nakamura’s method, Centroid Moment Tensor (CMT) retrieval of local earthquakes.

İstanbul Üniversitesi Jeofizik Mühendisliği tarafından çalıştırılması planlanan CMG40T geniş band deprem kayıtçısı için uygun bir istasyon yeri belirlemek amacı ile Avcılar ve çevresinde değişik noktalarda gürültü seviyeleri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Yapılan incelemeler sonucunda istasyon yeri olarak en düşük gürültü seviyesine sahip İ.Ü. Silivri kampüsü belirlenmiş ve sismograf bu noktada sürekli çalıştırılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu alet ile yapılabilecek çalışmalara örnek olabilmesi amacı ile bazı noktalarda gürültü kayıtları kullanılarak Nakamura Yöntemi ile zemin transfer fonksiyonları hesaplanmıştır. Ayrıca, tek istasyon üç bileşen deprem kaydı kullanılarak hesaplanabilecek Centroid Moment Tensor (CMT) çözümlerine örnek verilmiştir.
