Since

e ancient time China is known as a country of music and ceremonies. The social and educational role of music in Chinese society was very important: it was believed that it helps on the one hand in the country's management, on the other hand in the people's education. The cosmological and socio-political understanding of music was typical for the ancient Chinese. It was believed that musical tones correspond to the different elements of the universe and all things interact to each other on the basis of communication, similar to the musical consonances. The oldest musical instruments which were found in China date back to the V-IV millennia BC. They are the various kinds of whistles and bone pipes. Relating to that time the spherical clay ocarinas, lithophones, bronze bells and other musical instruments were found during the archaeological excavations. There are some textual confirms of a significant increase in the number of musical instruments in the Zhou dynasty. A variety of rattles, scrapers, stringed instruments, flutes etc. were indicated. During that period, there were classification "ba yin" (eight sounds) - the traditional musical instruments' division to eight categories depended on the material from which they were entirely or in large part made. The first mention of this system in connection with musical instruments occurs in the "Guo yu", which says that they should be made with the principles of sounds' consistency, so that the instruments' sounds will harmonize to the "eight winds."Abstract (Original Language):
Çin eski çağlardan beri müzik ve törenler ülkesi olarak bilinmektedir. Müziği her türlü erdemin kaynağı gören ve ruhun eğitilmesinde büyük etken olduğuna inanan Eski Çinliler, onu savaşlarda, dinsel törenlerde, hastalıklar tedavisinde ve günlük yaşamda kullanırlar. Çinlilere göre insanın davranış ve duygularını etkileyen müzik yönetimin ve düzenin de temeli sayılmıştır. Genelde Eski Çinliler için müzik tipik bir kozmolojik ve sosyo-politik anlayıştır. Arkeolojik kazılardan Çinlilerin zengin bir müzik yaşamına ve çeşitli çalgılara sahip oldukları belli oluyor. En eski Çin çalgıları M.Ö 5.-4. binyıllara ait edilir. Yapılan kazılarda küre şeklinde olan kil okarinalar, lithophone'lar, bronz çanlar ve diğer çalgılar bulunmuştur. Bu çalgıların daha çok Zhou hanedanlığı döneminde sayısında önemli artış olduğu ve bu dönemde "ba yin" (sekiz tını) adlı geleneksel çalgı sınıflandırmasının ortaya çıktığı görülür. Ba yin sınıflandırmasında çalgılar tamamen veya kısmen yapıldıkları malzemeye göre ayrılır. Bu sınıflandırma hakkında ilk defa "Guo yu" kitabında söz edilerek çalgıları birbirleriyle ses tutarlılığı ilkelerine göre yapılması ve onların "sekiz rüzgarla" uyumluluk gerektirdiği söyleniyor.
