In this study panel data models were used for determining the effects of independent variables including unemployment, non-performing loans and divorce rate on crime in regions of Turkey during the years 2008-2011. Turkey consists of 12 geographic regions (due to TUIK classifications). To determine the relationship between crime and the independent variables (unemployment, non-performing loans and divorce rate), the fixed effects model and the random effects model which are the most common static linear panel data analysis models are used. Results of the study show that if the divorce rate increases one per thousand, crime number for thousand people increases 1,24; if the non performing loans per capita increases 100 Turkish Liras, crime number for thousand people decreases 0,12. Unemployment rate is significant in just one model and by this model if the unemployment rate increases 1%, crime number for thousand people increases 0,03.

Çalışmada Türkiye'de bölgelere göre işsizlik, boşanma oranı ve takibe düşen kredi değişkenlerinin suç üzerine etkisi 2008-2011 dönemi için panel veri analizi ile incelenmiştir. Panel veri analizinde kullanılan birimleri Türkiye'deki 12 coğrafi bölge oluşturmaktadır (Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu'nun sınıflandırmasıdır). İşsizlik, suç oranı, boşanma oranı ve takibe düşen kredi miktarı değişkenleri arasındaki etkiler statik panel veri analizinde en sık kullanılan sabit ve tesadüfi etki modelleri kullanılarak saptanmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada elde edilen sonuçlara göre, kaba boşanma hızındaki binde birlik artış bin kişiye düşen suç sayısını ortalama 1,24 arttırmakta; bankaların kişi başı takipteki alacaklarındaki 100 TL'lik artış bin kişiye düşen suç sayısını ortalama 0,12 azaltmaktadır. İşsizlik oranı yalnızca kurulan modellerden birinde anlamlıdır ve bu modele göre işsizlik oranındaki %1 'lik artış, bin kişiye düşen suç sayısını ortalama 0,03 arttırmaktadır.
