Surgical site infections(SSI) are the most important problems of surgery. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Surgical site infections (SSI) cause of morbidity, mortality and increased length of hospital stay and cost. In this review, the current definition of surgical site infections, preoperative hair removal to reduce surgical site infection were discussed.

Cerrahi alan enfeksiyonları (CAE), cerrahinin en önemli problemlerinden biridir. Amerikan Hastalıkları Kontrol ve Önleme Merkezi’ne göre mortaliteyi, morbiditeyi, hastanede yatış süresini ve sağlık harcamalarını arttırması bakımından sağlık hizmetleri ile ilişkili enfeksiyonların (SHİE) önemli bir bölümünü oluşturmakta ve cerrahinin ciddi bir sorunu olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu derlemede, cerrahi alan enfeksiyonlarının güncel tanımı ve CAE’yi önlemeye yönelik ameliyat öncesi tüy temizliği uygulamaları irdelendi.
