Because of the negative impact of the domestic violence on the community and individual in the recent years, it is among the very important topics which is researched and looked for the solution and sough to the victims of domestic violence by academicians, leaders of the communities, law enforcements and non-governmental organizations. Academicians who are working on the domestic violence categorized domestic violence into two categories. The first category is the reasons of domestic violence; the second category is the strategies and methods which are used for combating against domestic violence. According to the academicians, it is very hard to explain domestic violence with a single reason. Social learning theory is among the theories that are used by the academicians who are trying to explain domestic violence. According to social learning theory, individual learn, copy, model and imitate the violent attitudes like other attitudes. The learned attitudes which include violence are reinforced through the childhood and they are imitated during the adolescent and adulthood. In this study, the results of the academic researches which support the relationship between the social learning theory and domestic violence are examined.

Toplum ve bireyler üzerindeki olumsuz etkisi nedeniyle aile içi şiddet, son yıllarda akademisyenler, topluma liderlik eden yöneticiler, kolluk kuvvetleri ve sivil toplum kuruluşlarının üzerinde en çok araştırma yaptıkları, çözüm önerileri aradıkları ve mağdurlara yardım etmek için ellerindeki kaynakları seferber ettikleri konular arasında yer almaktadır. Aile içi şiddet konusunda çalışan akademisyenler, özellikle aile içi şiddet üzerine yapılan çalışmaları iki başlık altında toplamaktadırlar. Birinci başlık, aile içi şiddetin nedenleri; ikinci başlık ise aile içi şiddetle mücadele yöntem ve stratejileridir. Akademisyenlere göre aile içi şiddeti tek bir nedene bağlayarak açıklamak çok güçtür. Sosyal Öğrenme Teorisi, aile içi şiddetin nedenlerini açıklamaya çalışanların en çok başvurduğu teoriler arasında yer almaktadır. Sosyal Öğrenme Teorisine göre, insanlar küçük yaşlarda öğrendikleri ya da şahit oldukları her davranış gibi şiddet içeren davranışları da öğrenirler, onları modeller ve taklit ederler. Öğrenilen, bu şiddet içeren davranışlar çocukluk dönemi boyunca pekiştirilir, ergenlik ve yetişkinlik döneminde de taklit edilir. Bu çalışma, Sosyal Öğrenme Teorisi ile aile içi şiddet arasındaki ilişkiyi destekleyen akademik araştırmaların sonuçlarını incelemektedir.
