Abstract (2. Language):
This study analyzes the US military operation in Iraq with respect to military casualties in the time period between the beginning of the operation on March 19th, 2003 and the presidential election on November 2nd, 2004. It comparatively analyzes the reasons behind the higher number and ratio of American casualties when compared to those of the other coalition countries and puts forward any noticeable operational mistakes affecting the casualty situation. In this context, this study focuses on identifying the operational mistakes, remedies to which may help mitigate the casualty figures of operations like Afghanistan – where the US first implemented its doctrine of Preventive Strike– and Iraq in the future. This study elaborates on the analysis of the military losses than Iraq operation was started at 19 March 2003 to the election of American president at 02 October 2004.

Bu çalışma ile 19 Mart 2003 tarihinde başlayan Irak Harekâtı’ndan 02 Kasım 2004 tarihinde Amerika Birleşik Devletleri başkanlık seçimlerine kadar olan süreç içerisinde Irak Harekâtı’nın askerî kayıplar yönünden bir değerlendirmesi yapılmaktadır. Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nin kayıplarının diğer koalisyon güçlerinden sayısal ve oransal olarak daha fazla olmasının gerekçeleri karşılaştırmalı olarak analiz edilerek tespit edilebilen hataların ortaya çıkarılmasına çalışılmıştır. Bu kapsamda Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nin Önleyici Saldırı Doktrini’ni (Preventive) uygulamaya koyduğu Afganistan Harekâtı’ndan Irak’a kadar olan dönemin askerî kayıplarına ve bugünün gelişiminden yola çıkarak geleceğin askerî harekâtlarına tedbir getirecek hatalar bulunmaya çalışılmıştır.
