Objective: İn developedpopulations the İncreasing trend of electromagnetic pollution survives in an insidious and dangerous dimension. Although estlmating the negative effects of electromagnetic field on human organism is very difficult, assessment of their effect on arteries was aimed in this experimental study. Material and Methods: An electrical shaver was choosen as a source of electromagnetic field vvhich was estimated as having a 5-10 gauss electromagnetic field. The shaver was directly periormed on sklns of left common carotid and bilateral femoral arteries of 7 street dogs, vveighing meaniy 20-25 kg, within a mean period of 5 months. This was performed on one time in every week with a period of 7 minutes. Totally, 18 periods were periormed. At the end of the study carotid and femoral arteries were excised for histopathological examination. Results: Tissue examples of 21 study and 14 control specimens were examined under light microscope. İn study group 8 examples had moderate and 7 examples had severe intimal changes, whiie in control group 3 exampies had miid intimal changes. A chi square test betvveen these groups were considered significant (p<0,05). Conclusion: Endothelial injury and subendothe-llal seperations were significantly found in a very short period. These changes may cause stroke due to athero¬genesis on carotid arteries İn a longer period.

Amaç: Bilişim toplumlarında elektromanyetik kirlilikteki artış sinsi ve tehlikeli bir boyutta sürmektedir. Elektromanyetik alanın zararlarını organizmada ölçebilmek kolay olmamakla birlikte arteriyel sistem üzerindeki etkilerin araştırılması hedeflendi. Materyal ve Metod: Elektromanyetik alan oluşturmak üzere elektrikli traş makinesi seçildi. Traş makinelerinin manyetik alan şiddeti 5-10 gauss arasında kabul ediliyor. Ortalama ağırlıkları 20-25 kg olan toplam 7 sokak köpeği üzerinde 5 ay boyunca sol carotis communis ve bilateral femoral arterlerin trasesi üzerinde 7 günde bir her artere 7 dakika süreyle traş makinesiyle cilde direkt temas sağlanarak traş işlemi uygulandı. Toplam 18 seans yapıldı. Çalışma sonunda karotis ve femoral arterler eksize edilip histopatolojik değerlendirmeye alındı. Bulgular: 21 deney ve 14 kontrol grubu doku Örneklerinin ışık mikroskobunda incelen-mesinde; elektromayetik alanın 8'inde hafif 7'sinde ağır, kontrol grubunun 3'ünde hafif düzeyde patolojik değişiklik¬ler gözlendi. Ki kare testinde (p<0,05) önemli bulundu. Sonuç: Kısa sürede önemli düzeyde endotelyal hasar ve subendotelyal ayrışmalar tespit edildi. Bu değişim uzun sürede aterojenik yapılanmayı aktive edip carotis arter düzeyinde atheromatöz strokları davet edebilir.
