The latex allergy has been increasingly recognised in recentyears in both adults and children. After anaphylactic type reac-tions due to latex has been shovvn as case reports, latex allergy became an Important problem especially in medıcai prac-tıce. The majör risk factors in iatex allergy are intense exposure to iatex allergens (surgical gloves. catheters. ete), atopy. hand eczema, female genden history ofmultipie operations and dental interventions. Some occupational groups such as healtthcare vvorkers and vvorkers in !atex industry are under greater risk due to their possible frequent contact with latex. An association betvveen latex allergy and allergy to various fruits (banana, avocado. pineapple, kiwi, ete) has been report-ed. Latex allergy is responsible for a wide speetrum of clinical symptoms ranging from a mild dermatitis to severe anaphy-laxis in both adults and children. Therefore, an allergologic investigation for latex allergy should be considered for those from high-risk groups. Then, it will be possible to take precautions in order to prevent life-threatining aliergic reactions by exposure to latex.

Son yıllarda lateks allerjisi ile ilgili olgu sunuları ve araştırmaların yayınlandığı dikkati çekmektedir Lateks antijeni ile mey¬dana gelen anafilaktik reaksiyonların gösterilmesi İle önemli bir tıbbi sorun haline gelen bu konu özellikle riskli grupların tanımlanması ile daha da önem kazanmıştır. Lateks allerjisinin meydana gelmesinde en büyük risk faktörleri arasında lateks içeren ürünleri (eldiven, idrar sondası, kateter, vb.} yoğun olarak kullanma, ailerjik bünye, el dermatiti, bayan cinsiyet, öyküde geçirilmiş cerrahi girişim ve diş tedavisi bulunması sayılmaktadır. Sağlık personeli ve lateks endüstrisinde çalışan işçiler gibi bazı meslek grupları yoğun antıjenik temas nedeniyle lateks allerjisi için risk altındadır. Ayrıca lateks allerjisi ile bazı meyve (muz, avakado, ananas, kivi, vb.) allerjileri arasında çapraz reaksiyonlar bildirilmiştir. Lateks allerjisi hafif bir dermatitten hayatı tehdit eden anafilaktik reaksiyonlara kadar ileryen klinik durumlara neden ola¬bilir. Bu yüzden lateks allerjisi için risk taşıyan bireylerde lateks allerjisi araştırılmalıdır. Böylece lateks İle ilişkili ailerjik reak¬siyonlar için önlemler alınması ve özellikle hayatı tehdit eden klinik durumların engellenmesi mümkün olacaktır
