THE DETECTION OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY VOWEL LENGTHS IN THE OLD ANATOLIAN TURKISH USING RHYME

ft is thought that the lengths in Turkish words belonging to Old Anatolian Turkish, which is not shown in writing, can be determined by examining the mesnevi type. The key point in the selection of mesnevi type is that every couplet of this type is rhymed in itself. In this article, we try to prove this idea by giving examples of two mesnevis. It is seen that Arabic and Persian words with long vowels together with the Turkish words involving lengths can be easily combined into a rhyme. In the examples given in this paper, the words possibly involving primary lengths and Arabic/Persian originated words with long vowels combined to form a rhyme is based on a meaningful observation. All of these examples have primary lengths in Turkmen.
Unfortunately, in the determination of long vowels, belonging to the Old Anatolian Turkish, we cant take the advantage of the writing system used in this historical dialect. However, the rhyme system gives us a great opportunity on this issue. The Turkish words including long vowels in the Old Anatolian Turkish can be determined completely after a detailed study on this subject. Following this analysis, wc turn our attention to divan poem verses, which is concentrated on rhyme words. On this area, the open syllables that are seen as a meter error is found out to be closed syllables because of their lengths and it will be understood that there is no meter mistake in these situations.

Her beyti kendi arasında kafiyeli olduğu için mesnevi türü incelenerek Eski Anadolu Türkçesine ait Türkçe kelimelerde yazıda gösterilmeyen uzunlukların tespit edilebileceğini düşünüyoruz. Makalede bu düşünce, iki mesneviden yola çıkılarak ispatlanmaya çalışılmıştır. Uzun ünlülu Arapça ve Farsça kelimelerle Türkçenin uzunluk bulunduran kelimelerinin kolayca kafiye oîuşturabildiği görülüyor. Makalede verilen Örneklerde, aslî uzunluk bulundurabilecek kelimelerin uzun ünlülü Arapça/Farsça kelimelerle kafiyelenmesi, sebepsiz bîr tercihe dayanmamaktadır. Bu örneklerin hepsi Türkmen Türkçesinde aslî uzunluk bulundurmaktadır.
Eski Anadolu Türkçesindeki uzun ünlülerin tespitinde bu tarihî lehçede kullanılan yazı sisteminden ne yazık ki pek faydalanamıyoruz. Ancak kafiye sistemi bize bu konuda büyük kolaylıklar sağlamaktadır. Bu konuda yapılacak daha geniş çalışmalardan sonra, Eski Anadolu Türkçesinde uzun ünlü bulunduran Türkçe kelimeler tam olarak tespit edilebilir. Bu tespitin ardından kafiye kelimelerinde yoğunlaşan dikkatimizi Divan şiiri mısralarına çevirdiğimizde, vezin hatası olarak görülen birçok açık hecenin aslında uzunluktan dolayı kapalı olduğu ve buralarda vezin hatasının bulunmadığı anlaşılmış olacaktır.
