Abstract (2. Language):
The Element Free Galerkin (EFG) method based on Galerkin formulation, which was developed as an
alternative to the finite element method has been used widely in solution of engineering problems for last two
decades. In this study, new and popular EFG method was applied to a simple solid mechanics problem. As a
numerical example, a 2D elastic cantilever beam fixed at one end and subjected to traction at the other free
end is investigated. Moving least squares approximation is used as a shape functions. Displacement values ux
and uy and solution time obtained by using EFG are compared with analytical solution and the finite element
results. As a result, it can be concluded that the accuracy and efficiency of element free Galerkin method
solutions are better than the results of the finite element method.
