While doing business, organizations develop different abilities which are essential factors that distinguish each organization from others. Organizations shape and pursue their activities due to these abilities. Denison (1990) suggests that becoming a learning organization, making innovation, and becoming customer oriented are the most important abilities that adapt organizations to the changing environments where they operate. Since these abilities affect every feature and application of an organization, there is a stong relationship between these abilities and the development and application of organizational strategies because these strategies are seen as an endeavour of organizations to survive by adapting to changing environments. The paper based on a literature review discusses how these abilities can be developed and in what ways they are interrelated, and supports and explains Miles and Snow's (1978) strategy typology by these abilities. The paper further discusses the impact of various strategy types on different performance outcomes.

İşletmeler faaliyet gösterirken çeşitli yetenekler geliştirmektedir ve bu yetenekler her bir işletmeyi diğerinden ayırt eden temel unsurlardandır. İşletmeler bu yetenekler sayesinde faaliyetlerini sürdürür ve eylemlerini şekillendirirler. Denison (1990) öğrenen örgüt olma, yenilik yapma ve müşteri merkezli olmayı işletmelerin değişen çevreye adapte olmalarını sağlayan en önemli yetenekleri olarak önermektedir. Bu yetenekler işletmelerin her türlü özelliğini ve uygulamasını etkilemektedir. Strateji ise işletmelerin değişen şartlara uyum sağlayarak yaşamını sürdürme çabası olarak görüldüğünden bu yeteneklerle işletme stratejisinin geliştirilmesi ve uygulanması ilişkilidir. Literatür taraması olan bu makale ile bu yeteneklerin nasıl geliştirilebileceği ve birbirlerini nasıl etkilediğini ortaya koyma ve Miles ve Snow (1978) tarafından geliştirilen strateji tipolojisinin desteklenmesi ve açıklanması ve bu yetenekler ve uygulanan stratejilerin işletmelerin performanslarına etkilerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır.
