In general, performance based wage systems aim to link wage and performance so as to increase employees' performance. For the unskilled, blue-collared workers comparatively it is easier to maintain such a link between performance and wages. Hence, it is not that easy to accomplish the same result for the highly skilled, white-collared workers. However, in the recent years, performance-based wage systems are getting a wide range of application area even in the services sector, where the majority of the workers are white-collared. In this study, the results of performance-based system applied in public hospitals in Turkey have been analyzed particularly from the doctors' point of view.

Performansa dayalı ücret sistemleri, genelde, ücretle performans arasında ilişki kurarak çalışanların performansını geliştirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu ilişki, vasıfsız, mavi yakalı işçiler açısından nispeten kolay biçimde kurulmaktadır. Ancak, yüksek nitelikli, beyaz yakalı işçiler açısından söz konusu ilişkinin kurulması diğeri kadar kolay olmamaktadır. Buna rağmen son yıllarda, genellikle beyaz yakalı işçilerin istihdam edildiği hizmet sektöründe de performansa dayalı ücret sistemlerinin daha yaygın olarak kullanıldığı görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Türkiye'deki kamu hastanelerinde performansa dayalı ücret uygulamasının sonuçları incelenmiş ve uygulamanın, özellikle doktorların memnuniyetini ne ölçüde etkilediği araştırılmıştır.
