The role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which is a concept produced by Neo-liberalism and globalization, is becoming more and more important in the world. CSR projects that, companies take responsibility for social, environmental and ethical issues as voluntarily. On the other hand, it is being claimed that, the citizens have not received social services sufficiently due to the contraction of the state, companies and NGO's are not able to supply the shortage and CSR will fail to be a successful model. One of the important elements of CSR is the responsibility of the company for its employees. Occupational health and safety (OHS) are considered under the extent of social responsibilities of the companies and this point is defined by the principles of Global Compact of UN. However, it is seen that, external shareholders are considered more than internal shareholders are considered in CSR comprehension of the companies existing in our country and the projects aiming to improve working conditions and OHS among the executed projects have not taken place sufficiently. Our companies should bear more responsibility and make the public opinion hear them for being able to survive under severe competition conditions of today's global world.

Neo-liberalizm ve küreselleşmenin yarattığı yeni bir kavram olan Kurumsal Sosyal Sorumluluğa (KSS) biçilen rol, Dünya'da giderek önem kazanmaktadır. KSS sosyal, çevresel ve ahlaki konularda şirketlerin, gönüllülük ilkesiyle sorumluluk almasını öngörmektedir. Öte yandan, devletin küçülmesiyle vatandaşların sosyal hizmetleri yeterince alamadığı, şirket ve STK'ların bu boşluğu doldurabilecek yeterliliğe sahip olmadığı, KSS'nin başarılı bir model olamayacağı da ileri sürülmektedir. KSS'nin önemli unsurlarından biri de, işletmenin çalışanlarına karşı olan sorumluluğudur. İş sağlığı ve güvenliği (İSG) işletmelerin sosyal sorumlulukları kapsamında değerlendirilmekte; bu husus BM Küresel İlkeler Sözleşmesi prensipleriyle de ortaya konmaktadır. Fakat ülkemizdeki şirketlerin KSS anlayışında dışsal paydaşlara, içsel paydaşlara nazaran daha fazla önem verildiği; yürütülen KSS projeleri içinde, çalışma koşulları ve İSG'yi iyileştirmeyi amaçlayan projelere yeterince yer verilmediği görülmektedir. Günümüzün küresel Dünyasında şirketlerimizin, keskin rekabet koşullarında ayakta kalabilmesi için; İSG konusunda daha fazla sorumluluk taşımaları ve bunu kamuoyuna duyurmaları gerekmektedir.
