Abstract (2. Language):
The vitality assessment of teeth is a crucial diagnostic procedure in the practice of dentistry. But it is complicated by the fact that the dental pulp is enclosed within calcified tissue. The most widely used traditional pulp vitality test methods are electric pulp testers and thermal stimulus. These methods are relying on stimulation of nerve fibers and given no direct indication of blood flow within the pulp. In addition, each of these methods is subjective tests and that depend on the patient's perceived response to a stimulus, as well as the dentist's interpretation of that response. And these methods have a potential to produce an unpleasant and occasionally painful sensation. Thus the reliability of these methods can vary and they are of limited use with children. Therefore it is important that to find a new diagnostic tool to assist in the diagnosis of teeth with pulpal pathosis and consequently to aid in their correct treatment. Pulse Oximetry and Laser Doppler Flowmetry are non-invasive methods to measure blood flow, which have been recently introduced as a new method to diagnose pulp vitality in human teeth.
