Abstract (2. Language):
In order to cement all ceramic restorations, such as ceramic veneers, inlays/onlays and crowns, dual cure composite resin luting cements are generally used and photo polymerized using with different types of light curing units such as quartz-tungsten halogen (QTH) and light-emitting diode (LED). After curing luting cements, different finishing and polishing regimes are conducted on the margins of the restorations. The aim of this study was to compare surface texture of a dual cure composite resin cements (Rely X ARC, 3M-ESPE) after curing and applying different finishing and polishing regimes, utilising scanning electron microscope (SEM) photographs with different magnifications. Six disc shaped test specimen with 6 mm diameter and 3 mm thickness was prepared for each group. Test materials were cured using either QTH (Optilux 501, Sybron-Kerr) or LED (Elipar preelight 2,3M-ESPE) curing units. Analyses of the surface texture of the cement finished and polished with mylar strip (Group 1), carbide finishing bur (Group 2), series of aluminum oxide polishing discs (Group 3), polishing cups (Group 4), polishing brush (Group 5), carbide bur followed by series of aluminum oxide polishing discs (Group 6), carbide bur followed by polishing cups (Group 7), carbide bur followed by polishing brush (Group 8). Specimens finished utilising carbide bur displayed the roughest surface. Mylar strip displayed the smoothest surface in all test groups. Curing with different light curing units did not show significant differences regarding surface texture. In the light of this study avoiding the use of carbide burs when removing minimally formed excess cement, will led to smoother surfaces at the marginal area and may have a positive effect on the longevity of the restoration.
