The activities of adenosine deaminase in sera of patients with cyst hydatid

Journal Name:

Publication Year:

Abstract (2. Language):
Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is an enzyme involved in the catabolism of purine bases, capable of catalyzing the deamination of adenosine, forming inosine in the process. In this study, it was aimed to determine ADA activity, which is an indicator of cellular immunity, in sera of patients with cystic echinococcosis (CE). Thirty patients with a pre-diagnoses of CE, detected to be positive on IHA and ELISA assays and did not undergone surgery were included in the study. Sera ADA activities were measured by colorimetric method. Sera ADA activities of CE patients (26.20 + 13.46) were higher than controls (20.45 + 5.19) and this difference was detected to be statistically significant (p=0.03, t=2.21). In conclusion, increased ADA activity, an indicator of cellular immunity and increased immunoreactivity against E. granulosus, was detected in the sera of CE patients.
