Penile prosthesis surgery remains an indispensable treatment option for restoring erectile function in a selected patient group whom medical therapies such as phosphodiesterase inhibitors are contraindicated or who have failed. During the past few years, improvements particularly in inflatable prostheses' cylinder and pump design to provide good device concealment, to ease inflation and deflation, and to reduce complications such as infection. It is important for urologists, to follow these advances in technology in order to best treat their patients. The aim of the article is to provide a review of the more widely used implants and to give an idea of which prosthesis is suitable for spesific patients.

Penil protez cerrahisi erektil disfonksiyon tedavisinde fosfodiesteraz gibi medikal tedavinin kontrendike olduğu veya cevap alınamadığı seçilmiş hasta gruplarında halen vazgeçilmez tedavi seçeneği olarak bulunmaktadır. Son yıllarda özellikle şişirilebilir protezlerdeki silindir ve pompa dizayn gelişmeleri protezlerin saklanmasını kolaylaştırmış, kolay şişirme ve söndürme sağlamış, aynı zamanda infeksiyon gibi komplikasyonları azaltmıştır. Bu teknolojik yeniliklerin takibi ürologlar açısından hastalarına en iyi şekilde tedavi sunabilmeleri için önemlidir. Derlemenin amacı yaygın kullanılan penil protezlerin gözden geçirilmesi ve özellikli hastalar için hangi protezlerin uygun olacağıyla ilgili fikir verebilmektir.
