Allergic fungal sinusitis, described in last decade, is a term. Recently, many studies have been carried out on this disease. Allergic fungal sinusitis is considered as a variety of fungal sinusitis. Other forms of fungal sinusitis are invasive fungal sinusitis and non-invasive fungal sinusitis. Prevalence ofAFS is 5-10 % of patients with chronic sinusitis who are needed surgical treatment. Because allergic fungal sinusitis has a immunologic aspect, it has a more complicated character than other fungal sinusitis. Because of this the diagnosis and treatment of this disease has been difficult.

Alerjik fungal sinüzit, son on yılda tanımlanmış bir terimdir. Son zamanlarda bu hastalık üzerine birçok çalışma yapılmıştır. Alerjik fungal sinüzit, fungal sinüzitlerin bir çeşidi olarak kabul edilir. Fungal sinüzitin diğer formları ise, non-invaziv fungal sinüzit ve invaziv fungal sinüzitlerdir. Alerjik fungal sinüzit prevalansı, cerrahi tedavi gerektiren kronik sinüzitli hastalar arasında %5-10 arasındadır. Alerjik fungal sinüzitin immünolojik bir yönünün olması nedeniyle diğer fungal sinüzitlerden daha karmaşık yapıya sahiptir. Bu nedenle bu hastalığın tanısı ve tedavisi güç olmuştur.
