Abstract (2. Language):
The components of the cholinergic system are: Choline acetyltransferase, acetylcholine, cholinesterases, cholinergic receptors. The classical role of this system is the conduction of impulses between the cells of the nervous system. During the embryonic period, the components of the cholinergic system are detected in various cells and tis¬sues independently from nerve conduction. Cholinesterases and cholinergic receptors have been found to appear transiently at the cells and tissues, especially of the early embryonic stage and disappear by the accom¬plishment of the morphological development of these cells and tissues. This finding shows that the choliner-gic system has played role in morphogenetic events like proliferation, differentiation and migration. This sys¬tem has been called as "the embryonic cholinergic system", because it has got function in the morphogenesis of the cells and tissues in the embryonic period, differently from the classical function of the cholinergic sys¬tem. AChE, BChE and muscarinic receptors which are among the components of the cholinergic system, have been found to be positive during the abnormal cell proliferation in malign diseases and no relation has been pro¬posed between these components and nerve conduction. Linear correlation has been stated to be present between the appearance of cholinesterases and muscarinic receptors and the abnormal cell proliferation in malign events.
