One of the most important factors affecting reproduction in fish is the quality of sperm and eggs. Therefore, getting information on the quality of sperm and eggs of broodstocks, and their evaluation criterions has a great importance. This review includes information on quality evaluation criterions before fertilization; macroscopic and microscopic examination of sperm, mass movement of sperm, sperm motility, sperm density, dead spermatozoon ratio to alive spermatozoon; examination of physical and chemical characteristics of sperm; fertilization and being inseminated success; determination of alive embryo rates.

Balık üretimini etkileyen en önemli faktörlerin başında sperm ve yumurtanın kalitesi gelmektedir. Bu nedenle, üretimde kullanılacak damızlıkların sperm ve yumurtalarının kalitelerinin değerlendirilme kriterlerinin bilinmesi büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada, döllenme öncesi kalite değerlendirme kriterleri; spermanın makroskopik ve mikroskopik muayenesi, spermanın kitle hareketi, motilitesi, yoğunluğu, ölü-canlı spermatozoon oranı; spermanın fiziksel ve kimyasal özelliklerinin muayenesi; dölleme ve döllenme başarısı; embriyo yaşama oranının belirlenmesi konularında bilgiler derlenilmiştir.
