Abstract (2. Language): 
Plasma carnitine levels and the effect of oral L-carnitine supplementation on trigliceride and free faty acid levels were investigated in twenty uremic children on peritoneal dialysis. No difference was found between patients and controls groups in respect to plasma total carnitine levels. However free carnitine levels were found to be low while acyl carnitine levels were high than that controls. Consequently acyl carnitine/free carnitine balance was disturbed in patients. L-carnitine supplemantation at 50 mg/kg/day in patients, for one month, led to a significant increase ir total carnitine, free carnitine and acyl carnitine levels, •when compared with the previous levels but no significant change was observed in acyl carnitine/free carnitine balance. L-carnitine supplementation had also no effect on triglyceride and free faty acid levels.

Periton diyalizi tedavisi gören 20 çocukta plazma karnitin düzeyleri ve oral karnitin suplemantasyonunun trigliserid ve serbest yağ asidi düzeylerine etkisi araştırıldı. Hasta grubunun bazal total karnitin düzeyi kontrol grubundan farklı değildi, fakat hasta grubunda serbest karnitin düzeyleri düşük, acil karnitin düzeyleri yüksekti, dolayısıyla acil karnitin/serbest karnitin oranı bozulmuştu. Bir ay süreli oral 50 mg/kg/gün L-karnitin tedavisi ile hastaların plazma total karnitin, acil karnitin düzeyleri tedavi öncesi değerlere göre anlamlı ölçüde yükseldi. Fakat, acil karnitin/serbest karnitin oranı değişmedi. Keza, karnitin tedavisi ile, trigliserid, serbest yağ asidi, düzeylerinde anlamlı değişiklik gözlenmedi.
