Ultrasonography (USG) is the most frequently used diagnostic and imaging method since the last quarter of the this century. Its wide range of use, reasonable size, portable models have caused them to invade physicians offices rapidly. Today its use ranges from assessment of the thyroid nodules to the diagnosis of abdominal aortic aneurysms, from the eva¬luation of the prostate to the imaging of the female pelvic or¬gans and the vast use in obstetrics. We believe that USG should be evaluated as a part of the physical examination and follow up of patients, and take its place in family practioners' offices after an appropriate train¬ing period.

Ultrasonografi (USG) bu yüzyılın son çeyreğinden itibaren en sık kullanılan tanı ve görüntüleme yöntemlerinden biri olmuştur. Kullanım alanının genişliği, boyutlarının küçük olması, elde taşınabilen modellerinin üretilmesi gibi nedenlerle USG cihazları pek çok hekimin ofisine hızla girmektedir. Günümüzde tiroid nodüllerinin değerlendirilmesinden, abdo¬minal aorta anevrizmasının saptanmasına, prostat bezinin de¬ğerlendirilmesinden, over ve endometriumun görüntülenmesi¬ne, obstetrideki yaygın kullanımına kadar çok geniş bir yelpazede USG yerini almıştır. USG'nin bir muayene yöntemi ve hastanın takibine olanak veren bir araç olarak görülmesi ve 1. basamak sağlık hizmetlerin¬de yaygın olarak kullanıma girmesi için gerekli eğitim uygula¬malarının başlatılması ile aile hekimlerinin bu önemli muayene aracına uzak kalmamaları gereğine inanıyoruz
