Urban spaces are unbuilt areas of urban pattern, outside buildings. High quality organization of urban space provides physical, social and economical contributions to urban life. Urban space should meet the requirements of users in order to acquire such characteristics. Natural, physical, social and economical characteristics which affect the quality of space, are evaluated together in successful design examples. Many urban spaces can not meet the expectations of users, since they are not evaluated from different points of view. In this study, the effect of natural characteristics on the quality of urban space is evaluated using data from topography, climate and panorama. As a result it is found out that data of the natural environment must be adequately analyzed in order for the design to be successful.

Kentsel mekanlar, kentsel dokunun yapılaşmamış alanları, binalar dışında kalan bölümleridir. Nitelikli kentsel mekan düzenlemeleri, kentsel yaşama fiziksel, sosyal ve ekonomik açıdan farklı katkılar sağlar. Bu tür kazanımlara ulaşabilmek için kentsel mekanın kullanıcı gereksinimlerine cevap verebilmesi gereklidir. Başarılı tasarımlarda, mekanın niteliğini etkileyen doğal, fiziksel, sosyal ve ekonomik özelliklerin birlikte değerlendirildiği görülmektedir. Günümüzde pek çok kentsel mekan çok boyutlu düşünülmediği için kullanıcıların beklentilerine cevap vermekte yetersiz kalmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, topografya, iklim ve manzara verileri kapsamında bir değerlendirme yapılarak, doğal özelliklerin kentsel mekan niteliği üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiş, gerçekleştirilen tasarımın başarı sağlayabilmesinde, alanın sahip olduğu doğal çevre verilerinin iyi analiz edilmesinin gerekliliği görülmüştür.
