Exercise is an important tool for obesity treatment. Exercise decrease the loss of lean body mass which occurs in restricted diets and also increase energy expenditure. This review discusses the effects of exercise on body composition, metabolism and health, as well as the role of exercise inducing and maintaining weight loss. Furthermore this review demonstrate the components of an exercise prescription and examine the benefits of increasing lifestyle activity, combined with efforts to decrease sedentary behavior.

Egzersiz, obezitenin tedavisinde önemli bir araçtır. Egzersiz, enerji harcamasını artırmakla birlikte, enerjisi sınırlı diyetler ile oluşan yağsız doku kaybını azaltmaktadır. Bu yazıda egzersizin; vücut bileşimi, metabolizması ve vücut ağırlığı üzerindeki etkisinin yanı sıra vücut ağırlık kaybını tetikleyici ve devamlılığını sağlayıcı etkisi üzerinde durulmaktadır. Ayrıca artan yaşam tarzı aktivitesinin yararları ve uygun görülen egzersiz programının içeriği de açıklanmaktadır. Bunların dışında, sadece egzersizin değil, fiziksel aktivitenin artırılmasının önemi de vurgulanmaktadır.
