Abstract (2. Language):
The European Union is currently engaged in its most ambitious enlargement ever. The aim is to reunite the European Continent and thus to consolidate peace and democracy and enable its people to share the benefits of progress and welfare generated by European integration.
After succesfully growing from 6 to 15 members, the European Union is now preparing for its biggest enlargement ever in terms of scope and diversity.
For the membership, all the applicant countries need to fulfil the economic and political conditions known as the 'Copenhagen Criteria'.
