Abstract (2. Language):
Objective: To determine the role of oxidative stress in recurrent pregnancy loss by using using a novel automated method Material and Method: Thirty first trimester pregnant women with history of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) and 30 healthy pregnant women were enrolled in this prospective controlled study. The levels of total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) in maternal serum were measured by using the more recently designated Erel method. Results: We observed statistically significant increased TOS and OSI levels in patient group (p=0.032, p=0.007 respectively). We also demonstrated statistically significant decreased TAS level in pregnant women who had history of RPL (p=0.013). Conclusion: Our results support the concept that oksidative stress plays a central role in the etiopathogenesis of RPL. Further studies to evaluate the predictive role of TAS, TOS, OSI level by using Erel method are needed.
