The importance of primary teeth and early childhood caries

Journal Name:

Publication Year:

Abstract (2. Language):
The primary teeth not only play an important role in the chewing and digestion of food but, they also serve many functions in the growth and development. Primary teeth also play role in maintaining space for future permanent teeth that erupt to replace them. Unfortunately, many children are afflicted with dental caries at an early age, even those as young as 12 months. Decay at this age usually begins in the maxillary incisors but can later progress to involve canines and primary molars. Those affected children often suffer from a reduced quality of life when contrasted with their pers. In this article, the importance of primary teeth and early childhood caries have been reviewed in the light of the current literature.
