EVALUATION OF UNILATERAL CONDYLAR HYPERPLASIA BY CONE-BEAM COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY: A REPORT OF TWO CASES AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

Abstract (2. Language):
Condylar hyperplasia is an uncommon malformation of the mandible involving change in the size and morphology of the condylar neck and head. Although the clinical findings such as malocclusion and facial asymmetry point to condylar hyperplasia, radiologic evaluation is essential. Linear and angular measurements made using the Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) software can provide information to determine maxillary or facial and skull bone involvement. This report presents two cases which illustrate the effectiveness of CBCT for the diagnostic evaluation of condylar hyperplasia. The cone-beam imaging offers a dose- and cost-effective alternative with high-detailed images and comprehensive analysis for the diagnosis of osseous abnormalities of the TMJ.
