Benchmarking is a management tool which helps companies to obtain competitive advantages in both national and global markets. It also improves the success of strategic management process in companies. The purposes of this study are to determine the benchmarking practices of The First and Second 500 Industrial Enterprises of 2006 in Turkey within organizational departments, with competitors in the same sector and with other companies in different sectors for their functions and processes; and analyze the differences between the benchmarking practices of these companies. This paper highlights the importance of benchmarking to acquire national and global competitive advantages for major industrial enterprises in Turkey. It explains that these companies need to conduct strategic management processes based on their benchmarking practices. The descriptive research method is used in this study. The frequency distribution analyses and chi-square analyses were applied to the data. This study is unique in the benchmarking field. It leads companies to understand the importance of benchmarking and apply benchmarking in their organizations in Turkey.

Kıyaslama, şirketlerin ulusal ve küresel pazarlarda rekabet üstünlüğü kazanmalarınısağlayan, stratejik yönetim sürecinin başarısınıartıran bir yönetim aracıdır. Bu araştırmanın amaçları, 2006 yılının İlk ve İkinci 500 Büyük Sanayi Kuruluşu’nun fonksiyonlarına ve süreçlerine ilişkin, örgüt içindeki bölümler arasında, sektördeki rakiplerle ve sektör dışı şirketlerle kıyaslama gerçekleştirme düzeylerini belirlemek; bu şirketlerin kıyaslama uygulamalarıarasında farklılık olup, olmadığınıanaliz etmektir. Çalışmada, Türkiye’deki başlıca sanayi kuruluşlarının ulusal ve küresel rekabet üstünlüğüne sahip olabilmeleri için kıyaslama yapmalarının ve bu yönde stratejik yönetim süreçlerini şekillendirmelerinin öneminin altı çizilmektedir. Araştırma tanımlayıcıbir çalışmadır. Araştırma verilerine frekans dağılımıanalizleri ve ki-kare analizleri uygulanmıştır. Çalışma, kıyaslama alanında özgün olmasının yanısıra, Türkiye’deki şirketlerin kıyaslamanın önemini kavramlarıve örgütlerinde kıyaslama gerçekleştirmeleri yönünde öncü rol oynamaktadır.
