Abstract (2. Language):
Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the possibility of the development of iron deficiency anemia in exclusively breast-fed infants even at the fourth month. Materials and Method: This study was carried out on 95 term babies born in Dr.Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Training and Resarch Hospital Obstetrics Clinic. Hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular vol¬ume, serum iron, total iron binding capacity and ferritin values of babies were evaluated at forth months. Results: We found iron deficiency anemia in 8.4%, whereas iron deficiency was observed in 13.6% of the infants. Conclusion: The presence of iron deficiency anemia in four month old , fully breast-fed infants may create the necessity of iron sup¬plementation before the sixth month.

Amaç: Bu çalışmadaki amacımız sadece anne sütüyle beslenen bebeklerde 4. ayda bile demir eksikliği anemisinin gelişebileceğini göstermektir. Yöntem: Çalışma Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Kadın Hastalıkları ve Doğum Kliniği'nde doğan 95 bebek ile yapıldı. Bebeklerin hemoglobin, hematokrit, ortalama eritrosit hacmi, demir, toplam demir bağlama kapasitesi ve ferritin değer¬leri 4. ayda değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Bebeklerin %8.4'ünde demir eksikliği anemisi, %13.6'sında ise demir eksikliği tespit edildi. Sonuç: 4. ayda sadece anne sütü ile beslenen bebeklerde bile de¬mir eksikliği anemisi görülmesi süt çocuklarında demir takviyesinin 6. aydan daha erkene alınmasını gerektirebilir.
