Abstract (2. Language):
In literature weight loss succes in obesity is associated with psychological factors and individuals‟ cognitions . In this study the relationship between weight loss success of individuals with obesity and depressive tendencies was investigated. Scales were answered by 154 volunteer participants (121 women). Age range is 18 to 69. Participants with obesity (n=117) grouped as succesfull (n=38), unsuccesfull (n=36), not taking professional help (n=43) groups. Also there was a normal weight group (n=37). Succesfull weight loss was defined as at least %10 weight loss and protection of new weight for one year. Participants with obesity was grouped accordingly. Depressive tendencies were measured by Automatic Thoughts Questionaire (ATQ) . According to findings succesfull weight loss group is differed significantly from other groups with obesity with lower giving up-helplessness thoughts, loneliness-isolation thoughts, negative self concept and also in terms of lower total automatic thoughts scale scores. Succesfull weight loss associated with having lesser depressive cognitions. Besides excess of depressive cognitions is related with unsuccesful results in terms of weight loss in obesity or not getting help for obesity. Results points out that people with obesity who experience difficulties in term of succesfull weight loss may benefit from psychological support focusing on related cognitions.
