Abstract (2. Language):
The aim of the present study was to observe the role of salivary calcium and phosphate in the periodontal diseases compared to the healthy individuals and to evaluate the correlation of the salivary calcium and phosphate levels with the periodontal clinical indice? of the patients diagnosed with adult periodontitis. For this purpose, 1 \ systemieally healthy adult periodontitis patients and II) systemieally and periodontal^ healthy subjects were recruited. Periodontal disease status was determined by clinical periodontal assessments including probing pocket depth, clinical attachment level, plaque index and gingival index. Prior to recording the clinical indices, raised saliva samples were collected. Salivary calcium and phosphate levels were measured quantitatively and cofonmetrically. All periodontal indices were found to be significantly higher in the periodontitis group, but no statistically significant difference was observed in salivary calcium and phosphate levels between the periodontitis and control groups. Furthermore, no meaningful correlation was observed between the salivary calcium and phosphate levels and periodontal variables in periodontitis and in control groups except for the significant negative correlation found between gingival index and salivary calcium level in control group.
