Abstract (2. Language):
The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the releases of Ni, Cr and Co ions from various arch wire s used in fixed orthodontic treatments at various pH levels by means of atomic absorption spectropho-tometer. NiTi, stainless steel, multistranded stainless steel and TMA arch wires of 3 cm length ligated to a lower right first molar band and a premolar bracket were kept in artificial saliva prepared at 4, 5.5, 7 pH levels under similar conditions for 30th 60th and 90th days. At 30th, 60th and 90th days, the samples taken from artificial saliva were evaluated with the atomic absorp¬tion spectrophotometer. The data obtained were com¬pared by means of variance analysis and multi com¬parison analysis. The results of the study showed that the highest level of ion release was at pH 4 level and lowest with¬in the third month, however it was continuing. Ni ions were found out to be released into saliva to the largest extent, whereas Cr ions were the lowest.
