Abstract (2. Language):
Resin-bonded prosthesis (RBP) are conservative restorations that require minimal tooth preparation and are used to restore short-span edentulous space. Restorations can be prepared with a metal framework and porcelain suprastructure as well as an all-ceramic system or fiber reinforced composite (FRC) framework and particulate filler composite suprastructure. The success of the restoration depends on the restoration material and bonding agent as well as tooth preparation design. The earliest, RBP with a metal framework was prepared with flared perforations on the metal. However in the following years, macro retention concept has been replaced to micro retention and chemical retention concepts, respectively. While esthetic dentistry is becoming increasingly popular, all-ceramic RBP have been widely used in dentistry. In the recent years, FRC fixed partial dentures have been used because of relatively low cost, their good esthetic properties and their favorable flexural modulus. However, the benefit of fiber-reinforced constructions is questionable because the fiber framework is anisotropic and does not strengthen the construction in all directions. RBP applications have been improved due to the laboratory and clinical studies and developed techniques. However long-term clinical studies showed that there was a need for more comprehensive studies.
