EVALUATION THE EFFICACY OF SELF-ADJUSTING FILE IN CSHAPED CANALS DURING ROOT CANAL PREPARATION

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of instrumentation of C-shaped canals with Self-Adjusting File (SAF). Methods: Ten mandibular molars with C-shaped canals were selected using a cone beam computed tomography and crowns were decoronated. After root canal enlargements using a hand file to ISO 20, light green was injected into the root canals and roots were kept in a vacuum container. Following dye colouring, C-shaped root canals were prepared using the SAF for 4 minutes. Roots were split into two halves using the clear-cut technique and images were recorded using a steoromicroscobe. Images were than transferred into Adobe Photoshop and Image J to calculate the touched or untouched areas of SAF on the root canal dentine. Arithmetical means were calculated and recorded. Results: The 66% of the total root canal area was prepared using the SAF however there were untouched root canal dentin in a total of 34% of the C-shaped root canal system. Conclusions: SAF system was unable to remove dentin especially from the coronal thirds of the Cshaped root canal walls

Amaç: Çalışmanın amacı C-şekilli kanal yapısına sahip kök kanallarının Self-Adjusting File (SAF) sistemi kullanılarak şekillendirilmesinin değerlendirilmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntem: C-şekilli kök kanal yapısına sahip olan dişler konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografi taraması ile tespit edildi ve kronlar uzaklaştırıldı. Kök kanallarının ISO 20 el eğesi ile şekillendirilmesini takiben kanalların içine light green boya enjekte edildi ve dişler vakum cihazına yerleştirildi. Kök kanallarının boyanmasını takiben, C-şekilli kanallar 4 dakika boyunca SAF kullanılarak şekillendirildi. Kökler uzunlamasına ortadan ikiye ayrıldı ve ışık mikroskobu ile görüntüler kayıt edildi. Görüntüler daha sonra Adobe Photoshop ve Image J programına aktarıldı ve SAF eğesinin kanal duvarlarına temas eden ve etmeyen bölgelerin alanları hesaplandı. Verilerin aritmetik ortalaması belirlendi. Bulgular: SAF ile C-şekili kök kanallarının %66 oranında şekillendirildiği fakat %34 oranında eğelerin kanal duvarlarına temas etmediği alanların varlığı saptandı. Sonuçlar: C-şekilli kök kanalları SAF sistemi kullanıldığında özellikle koronal üçte bir bölgede dentini uzaklaştırmada yetersiz kalmıştır.
