Abstract (2. Language):
In the present study, the relationships between the morphologies of symphysis and the first cervical vertebra and the longitudinal growth changes of mandible have been investigated On the lateral cephalomelric head films of 30 subjects, 15 male and 15 female. The morphologies of symphysis and the first cervical vertebra was determined On the first ftlms, while the growth changes of mandible was measured by superimposing the First and the second cephalometric film tracings, which were taken at intervals of five years. The means and standard deviations of the ages of male and female subjects were 10.6±0.4 years and 10.5±0.5 years respectively, at the beginning of the study. The measurements of male and female groups were analysed separately because of - the significant gender differences found by Student's t test. It has been found by correlation and multiple regression analyses that the morphologies of symphysis and the first cervical vertebra are not reliable criteria in prediction of mandibular growth changes.
