The root surface of periodontally involved teeth which were extracted from different periodontal disease groups were examined ultrastructurally and compared with each other and with healthy controlled group, respectively. 8 single rooted teeth from prepubertal, localized juvenile, rapidly progressive, adult periodontitis patients and 2 impacted teeth have been involved in this study. At the scanning electron microscope examination of root surfaces structural defects were seen at the intraalveoler region of the cementum in the early on-set periodontitis group. However, the cementum of the teeth from adult periodontitis, and the impacted teeth were in normaî appearence. It has been thought that the structural defects in the radicular cementum can play a role in the etiology of the periodontal diseases.

Farklı periodontal hastalık gruplarına ait bireylerden aşırı periodontal yıkım nedeniyle çekimi yapılmış dişlerin kok yüzeyleri birbirleriyle vc sağlıklı dişlerle kıya&latnalı olarak ultrastruktürel düzeyde incelerimi gür. Çalışma grubumuzu prepubertal, lokalize jüvenil, hızlı ilerleyen, erişkin periodontitis]i hastalara ait S adet tek köklü, kontrol grubumuzu ise 2 adet tam gömülü diş oluşturmuştur. Bu dişlerin sement yapısının tarayıcı elektron mikroskobu İle incelenmesi sonucunda erken yaşda hızlı alveoler kemik yıkımı ile kendini gösteren prepubertal, lokalize jüvenil ve hızlı ilerleyen pedodonti ti sde sementin intraalveder bölgede yapısal defektlere sahip olduğu, erişkin periodontitis ve tam gömülü dişlerde ise normal sement yapısının varlığı gözlenmiştir. Sementdekı yapısal defektlerin bu hastalıkların eti yo! oj i sinden sorumlu olabileceği düşünülmektedir
