Abstract (2. Language):
Caries process, a progressive destruction of tooh structure depends on the presence of dental plaque and microorgansm, substratae, carbonhidrale of low moleeuler weight, susceptible host factors and time. Effective preventive measures should be taken to alter one or more of these factors. Oral hygiene measures like removing bacterial plaque, dietary modification as controlling the consumption of foods containing car bonhyd rate together with fluoride therapy decreases the vulnerability of teeth. None of these measures alone lias eradicated caries, but when used appropriately and in cum bina t i on they can provide effective protection. Effective methods of community water and salt fluoridation are recommended by WHO for countries with limited resources. Water fluoridation requires relatively sophisticated technology. Salt fluoridation (250-350 mgF/kg) can be considered as equivalent to fluoridation of drinking water, in the past decade significant reductions in the prevalence of dental caries in children have been reported m Switzerland, France, Hungary and Colombia.Salt fluoridation seems more suitable method than water fluoridation in Turkey.
