THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WOMEN’S LABOR PARTICIPATION AND FERTILITY, DIVORCE AND THE WAGE RATE: A RESEARCH ON TURKEY

In this study, covering the years 1988-2009 in Turkey, the working life of women in interaction with the socio-economic factors are considered. The data set used in the study are as follows: Married women's fertility rate, divorce rate, female labor participation rate and the wage index. Long-term relationship between the variables used in the study was discussed. To do so, stationary test is applied, and then cointegration analysis and error correction techniques are used. In the long term relationship, the presence of a cointegrated vector and a positive relationship between wage index and fertility is determined. On the other hand, the relationship between wage index and the women’s labor participation rate is negative. The long term relationship between wage index and the divorce rate is in the same way. In addition, in Granger causality tests the presence of causality is investigated and with the impulse-response functions the reflection of the variable’s innovation on the other variables is followed.

Bu çalışmada Türkiye’de 1988-2009 yıllarını kapsayan dönemde, kadınların çalışma hayatı ile sosyoekonomik faktörlerin etkileşimi ele alınmıştır. Kullanılan veri seti, evli kadınlara ait doğurganlık oranı, boşanma oranı, kadınların işgücüne katılma oranı ve ücret endeksi olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada kullanılan değişkenlerin uzun dönem ilişkisi ele alınmıştır. Bunun için serilerin durağanlık testine başvurulmuş ve daha sonra eş bütünleşme analizi ve hata düzeltme teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Uzun dönem ilişkisinde bir eş bütünleşmenin söz konusu olduğu vektörün varlığı ve ücret endeksi ile doğurganlık arasında aynı yönlü ilişki tespit edilmiştir. Diğer taraftan, ücret endeksi ile kadınların işgücüne katılma oranı arasındaki ilişki negatif yönlü bulunmuştur. Yine ücret endeksi ile boşanma arasında aynı yönlü uzun dönem ilişkisi bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, değişkenlerin Granger nedensellik testinde nedenselliğin varlığı araştırılmış ve etki-tepki fonksiyonları ile değişkenlerdeki innovasyonun diğer değişkenlere yansıması takip edilmiştir.
