The main aim of this study is to produce solution to improve the students' homework performance and efficiency by using action research approach which is often preferred for solving the problems encountered by the teachers. The sample of the study consists of a selected group from 8th grade students at a primary school in Erzurum province in 2008-2009 academic year. This sample consists of one class and 27 students. The application has been continued during the 2008-2009 academic year. In the first semester, it has been determined the cause of the problem and prepared an action plan for solving the problem. In the second semester, the action has been applied and the success of the action at the result of this application has been measured. Both quantitative and qualitative data collection tools were used. These consist of homework attitude scale, open-ended survey questions, teacher observations and reviewing the students' homework (the documents). Homework attitude scales were analyzed by SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) program, teacher observations and open-ended questions were analyzed by the content analysis technique and the results were given as numeric. The students' homework was examined with regard to prepared homework control list, and this data was organized in the form of graphics by using the Microsoft Excel program. In the study performed during the first period despite the students expressed positive views about homework it has been observed that the students' homework performances are insufficient. In the light of data obtained from the students it has been determined cause of the student problem on not doing homework, and an action for solving this problem has been introduced. This action plan was applied in the second period. As a result, in despite of a remarkable increase in the number of students who do their homework, an important increase in the number of students who do their homework correctly or answer to the questions on their homework hasn't been seen. It has been proposed the new actions for solving the problem because of partly successful of the action applied.

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, öğretmenlerin karşılaştıkları problemleri anlamak ve çözüm üretmek için tercih ettikleri eylem araştırması yaklaşımını kullanarak, öğrencilerin ödev yapma performanslarını arttırmaktır. Çalışmanın örneklemini, 2008-2009 eğitim-ögretim yılında Erzurum ilinde bulunan bir ilköğretim okulunda problem yaşandığı için seçilen bir grup 8. sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Bu örneklem, bir şubeden ve 27 öğrenciden ibarettir. Uygulama, 2008-2009 öğretim yılı boyunca sürdürülmüştür. Birinci dönem problemin nedenleri ortaya konulmaya çalışılmış ve problemin çözümü için bir eylem planı hazırlanmıştır. İkinci dönem ise hazırlanan eylem uygulanmış ve bu uygulama sonucunda eylemin başarısı ölçülmeye çalışılmıştır. Veri toplamak için, hem nicel hem de nitel veri araçları kullanılmıştır. Bu araçlar; ödev tutum ölçeği, açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan anket, öğretmen gözlemleri ve öğrenci ödevlerinin (doküman) incelenmesinden oluşmaktadır. Ödev tutum ölçeği, SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) paket programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Öğretmen gözlemleri ve açık uçlu sorular ise içerik analizi tekniği ile analiz edilmiş ve sonuçlar sayısallaştırılmıştır. Öğrenci ödevleri ise hazırlanan ödev kontrol listeleri doğrultusunda incelenmiş, veriler Microsoft Excel programı kullanılarak grafikler halinde düzenlenmiştir. Birinci dönem yapılan çalışma ile öğrenciler ev ödevine karşı olumlu görüşler belirtmelerine rağmen, ya¬pılan uygulamalarda ödev performanslarının düşük olduğu görülmüştür. Elde edilen veriler ışığında, öğrencilerin ödev yapmama nedenleri de belirlenmiş ve problemin çözümüne yönelik bir eylem ortaya konmuştur.
