Abstract (2. Language):
Upon scrutinization of record-breaking children's and preteens' fantasy books, it can be seen that fantasia is being interlaced with Gothicism through the inclusion of themes of sorcery, witchcraft and prophesizing. In the most widely read books, the subjects of black and white magic are embellished and employed in exalting violence. While it cannot be said that fantasy and contemporary tales in themselves cause concern in terms of violence, the tolerance to violence introduced by themes of for¬tune-telling and sorcery being brought into daily life by these children's and preteens books is very concerning. The negative effects of reading books and watching films on children, due to their inability to easily differentiate between reality and abstract to the same degree as adults, are well-known. Following assessment of the general violence and conceptual levels in fantasy books, the relationship within metaphor and metonimie with the violence directed toward children was obtained. Even in the world of innocents the use of violence is possible, and the aim of this study is to reveal this lack of discrimination in the potential, passive accustomization of the consumer to this phenomenon through reading books and watching films.
