Abstract (2. Language):
Objectives: The aim of this research was to determine the lifetime and point prevalence of low back pain and to investigate the correlation between risk factors and low back pain seen among nurses working in Cerrahpafla Medical Faculty Hospital. Methods: The study consisted of 478 nurses working in Cerrahpafla Medical Faculty Hospital. Data was collected by using questionnaires consisting of 20 questions. Queried correlation with risk factors and low back pain were investigated, the lifetime and point prevalence rates of low back pain was determined. The data was analyzed in SPSS by using descriptive statistics and chi-squared test. Results: The lifetime prevalance was 84%, point prevalance was 63%. There was a statistical correlation between point prevalance of low back pain and body mass index, more working years in nursing and number of patients per day. Likewise in singles, nurses living alone in lodgings or at home with daily walking habit point prevalence rate was significantly lower. There was a statistical correlation between lifetime prevalance of low back pain and age and more working years. Conclusion: The prevalence of low back pain among nurses working in Cerrahpafla Medical Faculty Hospital was higher than the normal population. To reduce the incidence of low back pain in nurses we recommend that the training programs –especially low back schools– should be organized.
