Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim ikinci kademe öğrencilerinin bilişim teknolojilerinden yararlanma düzeylerini belirlemektir. Bu çalışmada, yazarın "İlköğretim İkinci Kademe Öğrencilerinin Bilişim Teknolojilerinden Yararlanma Düzeylerinin İncelenmesi (Kilis İli Örneği)" başlıklı yüksek lisans tez çalışmasında geliştirdiği Bilişim Teknolojilerinden Yararlanma Ölçeği (BTYÖ) ve elde ettiği bulgular kullanılmıştır. Ölçek, bilgi edinme, araştırma-inceleme, iletişim, oyun-eğlence ve kendini ifade etme olmak üzere beş alt boyuttan oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın evreni, 2007-2008 eğitim ve öğretim yılında, Kilis il genelindeki ilköğretim okullarında 6,7 ve 8. sınıflarda öğrenim gören öğrencilerdir. Ölçek, Kilis il genelinde bulunan on bir devlet ilköğretim okulunda 734 ikinci kademe öğrencisine uygulanmıştır. Araştırmanın sonunda öğrencilerin bilişim teknolojilerinden yararlanma düzeyleri genel olarak bilgi edinme, araştırma-inceleme, iletişim ve oyun-eğlence alt boyutlarında orta düzey olarak belirlenirken; kendini ifade etme alt boyutunda ise düşük düzey olarak belirlenmiştir.
