Abstract (2. Language):
Cities have always been remembered notoriously with crime throughout history. The cities become tempting areas to commit crimes as they have a heterogeneous and congested structure; there is poor social control in the cities; and they are the source of wealth and affluence. On the other hand, a safe city is the basis for the urban development. We cannot talk about a peaceful and healthy living environment in a city where the inhabitants are deprived of security of life and property. In this study that focuses on the concepts of city and crime, first of all, the theoretical dimension of the relationship between the concepts of city and crime will be discussed, and then the impact of urbanization on crime, the fear of crime, and the consequences of this fear over the urban life quality, as well as the relationship of the marginal areas (squatter and slum areas) in the city with crime will be examined. The goal of this study is to draw a framework for the researches in this field, which has recently started to develop in our country, by making an analysis over the concepts of city and crime.
