Abstract (2. Language):
Drinking water denitrification was studied by using ethanol as a carbon source. Batch experiments were carried out in order to determine optimum pH and C/N ratios and to evaluate temperature effects on the biodenitrification. Considering the results of the batch experiments; optimum ethanol to nitrate-nitrogen (C/N) ratio was determined as 1.5 and pH of the feeding solution as 7.5 for continuous experiment. The biological denitrification study was carried out continuous mode to evaluate effects of the hydraulic residence time on the system performance. Increasing hydraulic residence time higher than 2.4 hours had little effect on the nitrate and carbon eliminations. The nitrate removal efficiency dropped when qh was lower than 2.4 hours.
