It has been the focus of both researchers and curriculum developers that statistics is useful in daily life, is a tool that is used in other disciplines and important for enhancing the students’ critical thinking skills. As a consequence of this, the number of the researches related to teaching statistics has been increased for the last two decades. By the effect of these researches, the content and the structure of the acquisitions of the statistics learning area has begun to change. These changes cause to arise innovative pedagogical approaches that give direction to learning and teaching statistics. As a result of renewing the mathematics curriculum, it is seen in also our country that statistics learning area objectives for different grade levels take place more than in previous curricula. This requires the methods used in teaching statistics to be reviewed and to be aware of the innovative teaching approaches in accordance with the needs of the era. In this study, it is tried to present the strategies and innovations related to learning and teaching statistics based on the researches in context of suggestions. By reviewing the literature related to this purpose, the new and effective teaching approaches towards teaching statistics has been presented.

İstatistiğin günlük yaşamda faydalı ve kullanışlı olması, diğer disiplinlerde de kullanılan bir araç olması ve öğrencilerin eleştirel düşünme becerilerini geliştirmede önemli olması hem öğretim programı geliştirenlerin hem de araştırmacıların odak noktası olmuştur. Bunun sonucunda da son yirmi yılda istatistik öğretimine yönelik araştırmaların sayısı gittikçe artmıştır. Bu araştırmaların etkisi ile ilköğretimden üniversiteye istatistik öğrenme alanı kazanımlarının içeriği ve yapısı değişmeye başlamıştır. Bu değişiklikler istatistiğin öğrenilmesi ve öğretilmesine yön verici nitelikte, yenilikçi pedagojik yaklaşımların ortaya çıkmasına neden olmuştur. Matematik öğretim programlarının yenilenmesi sonucu ülkemizde de farklı sınıf düzeylerinde istatistik öğrenme alanı kazanımlarına önceki öğretim programlarından daha fazla yer verildiği görülmektedir. Bu ise istatistik öğretiminde kullanılan yöntemlerin gözden geçirilmesi ve çağın gereksinimleri doğrultusunda yenilikçi öğretim yaklaşımlarından haberdar olmasını gerektirmektedir. Bu çalışmada, istatistik öğretme ve öğrenmeye yönelik, öneriler bağlamında araştırmaya dayalı stratejiler ve yenilikler sunulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla ilgili literatür gözden geçirilerek, istatistik öğretimine yönelik yeni ve etkili öğretim yaklaşımları ortaya konmuştur.
