Abstract (2. Language):
In today's capitalistic society, the desire to consume has gone one step ahead of the desire to produce and in such an environment, popular culture, which is based on consumer culture, has begun to dominate societies. This feature provides continuous dynamism and keeps the drive to consume constantly alive. The phenomenon of fashion, which can be perceived as a reflection and means of popular culture, is used as a tool to direct individuals towards consumption by arousing their desire to be different. Various myths are used to ensure consumption of popular culture and products of popular culture. These myths may sometimes emphasize individuality while emphasizing communality at other times.
The study discusses the terms of popular culture and fashion from the viewpoint of political economy. In particular the relations between popular culture and fashion in the context where social phenomens are determined and directed by elites influetal on the processes of producing and consuming are discussed in the context of the critical theory.
