Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have a very important role in developing and developed countries’ economies due to their social and economic functions. Being accepted as a base of economy and social life in Turkey, SMEs have to adopt competitions inside and outside of Turkey in order to survive. One of the most necessary elements in achieving logistical competitive advantage is the management of inventory efficiently. This is possible only by using contemporary knowledge and technology for inventory management. In this research, factors affecting information and technology usage for inventory management in SMEs have been investigated. An empirical study was conducted in the manufacturing industries. Data were collected from a sample of 583 manufacturing SMEs and analyzed. As a result of this study, it was found that SMEs give importance to technology usage for inventory management differently, based on business size, industry and production process.

Küçük ve orta büyüklükteki isletmeler (KOB), sosyal ve ekonomik islevleri nedeniyle gelismis ve gelismekte olan ülke ekonomileri içinde son derece önemli bir yere sahip bulunmaktadır. Türkiye ekonomisinin ve sosyal hayatının temel taslarını olusturan KOB’lerin yasamlarını sürdürebilmeleri ülke içi ve dısı rekabet kosullarına uyum saglamalarına baglıdır. Stokların etkin bir sekilde yönetilmesi, KOB’lerin lojistik açıdan rekabet üstünlügü kazanmasında gerekli olan unsurlardan birisidir. Bu da ancak günümüz bilgi ve teknolojilerinin stok yönetiminde kullanılması ile mümkün olabilmektedir. Bu arastırmada, imalat sanayinde faaliyet gösteren 583 KOB üzerinde gerçeklestirilen anket çalısması ile KOB’lerde stokların yönetiminde bilgi ve teknolojinin kullanımını etkileyen etmenler incelenmektedir. Gerçeklestirilen analizler sonucunda, isletme büyüklügüne, sektöre ve üretim sürecine göre KOB’lerin stok yönetimiyle ilgili teknoloji kullanımına verdikleri önemin farklılıklar gösterdigi saptanmıstır.
